‘disrupted’, 2025
Nail polish colours of EURO banknotes, linen, wood, lashing strap
approx. 120 x 150 cm (dimensions variable)
Created in 2025, Janine Mackenroth’s “disrupted” transforms the colors of EURO banknotes into a tactile composition made of nail polish on linen, mounted on wood and held by a tension strap.
The work reinterprets the chromatic identity of European currency while using nail polish—a material linked to femininity and surface—to question systems of beauty, value, and labor. The strap’s constraining presence introduces tension and fragility, evoking the economic and social pressures underlying aesthetic order.
Compact yet conceptually charged, “disrupted” operates as both critique and transformation: it deconstructs material symbols of worth and recomposes them as poetic reflections on constraint, color, and control.
