As so often in Wilfried Habrich’s work, it’s hard to say exactly what we’re looking at. The paint is thickly applied, almost sculptural.

Fantasy machines and adventurous scaffolding are at the heart of Habrich’s world. His paintings are less about depicting relationships between people than about setting them in motion through imaginative constructions and mysterious machines whose purpose we sense but can never quite figure out. The titles take things a little further, adding another layer to the game.
