Paravent 2 | 2015

At the centre of the exhibition UNMASKED #3 is a cube of 2 screens, so called “Parevents”. Originally intended to hide gazes, this space-within-a-space constellation offers a very private refuge from the gaze of the street. Once inside this intimate room, the viewer finds himself surrounded and exposed to other gazes. It is the faces of known and unknown silent film protagonists that give us a self-conscious look with the directness and indecency of their time (20-30s).

The screens offer, in fine company, a retreat from the heck-tick city. The application of paint using different techniques gives the surfaces a three-dimensionality that evokes the lightness of being.
